Metz is known to the public as a manufacturer of premium televisions and flash-guns for cameras. However, the company also operates a separate plastics division, which makes parts for the electronics and automotive sectors among others

The Task:

Extension of production capacity for injection molding parts with high grade post processing tasks

The Problem:

Planning of a very flexible system solution, starting with material preparation and supply, over the injection molding machine to the mold clamping system as well as automation equipment

The Solution:

KraussMaffei as general supplier not only delivered the injection molding machine and the automation solution, but also provided tempering, dosing, drying and quick clamping system.

The Outcome:

Metz added a KraussMaffei MX 2700- 17200 injection moulding machine to its machine inventory. It will be used to produce large parts, such as back panels for TFT televisions. This flagship in the production halls of Metz-Kunststofftechnik is configured – and has all the necessary peripherals – to meet all the production requirements for large plastic parts now and into the future. One example is the industrial robot IR 600-300 W / K Jet with additional horizontal travelling axis and a maximum payload of 30 kg, which can additionally travel parallel to the clamping direction on a seventh horizontal axis. To achieve the high cycle rates likely to be required in the future, for example, in automotive applications, the machine is designed to run tandem moulds.
